All Media was started in 1985 as a video production house by two women, one an artist, and the other a writer/director. Before that, the idea of video production as an affordable communication medium was not entertained by most people. Although 3/4 inch video recording decks had been introduced in the late 70's, truly portable cameras didn't hit the scene until the early 80's. With the introduction of portable professional cameras, VHS and BETA home video cameras soon followed. Suddenly, everyone was watching video, buying players, and realizing what power lay in this medium. Corporations started to take notice as well. Prior to this, location shooting required huge crews and film – affordable only by large corporations and studios. With the introduction of the 3/4" video deck and portable cameras, all of that changed. Video became an affordable communication tool for smaller companies. |
